Monitors, identifies, investigates and analyzes all response activities related to cybersecurity incidents within an organization. Identifies security flaws and vulnerabilities; responds to cybersecurity incidents, conducts threat analysis as directed and addresses detected incidents. Evaluates event flows to identify common risks and vulnerabilities to develop and implement solutions. Assists with security audits, risk analysis, network forensics and penetration testing. Provides assistance in monitoring the security of all designated networks and systems. Prepares detailed incident reports and technical briefs for the IT security team.

The Major Incident Specialist role requires strong technical skills, deep knowledge of cybersecurity principles and technologies, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. The Major Incident Specialist plays a crucial role in coordinating and providing technical support to resolve cyber defence incidents across our managed client base. The Major Incident Specialists responsible for analysing incident data, identifying vulnerabilities, and recommending remediation actions. The Major Incident Specialist performs log file analysis, triages incidents, conducts trend analysis, and handles real-time incident response tasks. The Cybersecurity Incident Manager tracks and documents incidents and publishes reports.

Key Role Responsibilities:

 

  • Incident Response Lead
  • Quotations and cost management of all incidents
  • Client environment recovery post security incident
  • Problem analysis, investigation and diagnosis
  • Perform advanced issue analysis and resolution
  • Address major security incident escalations
  • Identifying underlying causes of security incidents and preventing recurrences
  • Developing workarounds or other solutions to security incidents
  • Submitting change requests to change management as required to eliminate known problems
  • Document known error / possible solution and knowledge articles
  • Compile reports for Security Incident resolution and closure
  • Vendor Management during incidents and escalations
  • Take the service schedules & SLAs developed through the value proposition development phase, develop them to contract quality and deliver them for inclusion in the schedules of the master services agreement
  • Drive validation processes by obtaining sign-off from technical, service and financial profiles
  • Understand and influence client operating models

  • In-depth knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework
  • Critical-thinking and root-cause-analysis skills
  • 5 years + in an client facing services orientated role required
  • In-depth knowledge of both perimeter and endpoint security technologies
  • In-depth understanding of networking technologies such as Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.
  • In-depth understanding of commercial backup offerings of the major vendors. For example, Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam etc.
  • Experience with various Microsoft Server versions
  • Experience with VMware virtualization technologies and principles
  • Experience with storage area network technologies
  • Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and group policy concepts
  • Good understanding of Continuity Infrastructure services and their limitations
  • In-depth knowledge of ITIL and Project Management Techniques
  • ITIL foundation v3 / v4 certification an advantage
  • A+ and N+ Certification an advantage
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to keep track of multiple problems
  • Extremely high attention to detail
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills at a senior management level
  • Able to manage relationships with peers and managers
  • Experience with managing vendors required
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced team members
  • Positive team player attitude with excellent verbal and written communication skills
