The Role
The Director of Engineering will be responsible to ensure the efficient and economic operation of the Engineering Department in support of all other operating Departments, supplying services as required to the entire operation, and maintaining equipment, building, and grounds in top condition .
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the engineering team in the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, including service standards, equipment schedules, and work schedules
Conduct walk-throughs and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure(s) of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and any other related equipment.
Follows up work in progress, controls regular maintenance, and routine inspection.
Oversee capital projects, including renovations, new construction, and equipment upgrades.
Develop and manage the department budget, including forecasting and controlling expenses.
Develop and implement an effective preventative maintenance program for the hotel’s physical plant, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
Conduct special training for other operating departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy in the hotel.
Develop systems and procedures to ensure the health and safety of guests and team members, as well as the proper conditions for plants, machinery, and property.
Manage the engineering team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
Ensure the hotel complies with all relevant codes and regulations related to building maintenance and safety.
Maintain strong relationships with outside vendors and contractors, and oversee their work on hotel property.
Respond promptly to guest requests and concerns related to engineering and maintenance issues.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering and maintenance operations, preferably in a hotel environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Ability to develop and implement effective preventative maintenance programs.
Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of relevant codes and regulations related to building maintenance and safety.
Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems and other relevant software programs.
