The COE is consistently ranked in the top ten of the best colleges of education in the country. In the last decade, CTL has contributed significantly to this ranking, because of its highly productive research portfolio.

CTL’s mission is to conduct, translate, and disseminate research that focuses on the solutions and resolutions to serious but practical problems in school systems. CTL’s current research focuses on the rigorous evaluation of instructional strategies and materials in the teaching and assessment of reading and mathematics skills in K-8. CTL’s current portfolio of research projects is available on the CTL website (http://ctl.uoregon.edu/research/). CTL administers upwards of $25 million across 28+ grants and employs approximately 20 faculty and staff.

Position Summary

The Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) relies on Research Coordinators to ensure the smooth functioning of educational development, research, and evaluation projects. Research Coordinators are assigned to one or more projects simultaneously, and assignments may fluctuate to meet CTL’s needs. Research Coordinators are responsible for ensuring day-to-day management and documentation of large, externally funded projects (and, in some cases, smaller, internally funded projects). Data collection and management is a major responsibility, as is meeting organization, communication within CTL and with partners (e.g., school districts, and other universities), and supporting the principal investigators’ management and dissemination activities. Assessment Coordinators – and in many cases Research Coordinators – manage (e.g., hire, train, informally supervise, schedule) project-specific activities conducted by an ever-changing team of on- and off-site data collectors who tend to work across projects. A high level of independent decision-making (regarding logistics, document drafts, minor revisions, and management approaches) is encouraged of all coordinators, but detailed documentation and proactive communication with other members of the research team (including, but not limited to the PIs) is expected. Coordinators are expected to share knowledge and expertise and contribute to standardized systems whenever possible.

The Research Coordinator is responsible for developing research instruments (e.g., surveys, assessments) and managing the creation of data files (and associated database features) before assessments/entries take place so the team will be able to accurately, efficiently, and confidently collect, process, and utilize data for decision-making and dissemination purposes. This position assists in data verification, cleaning and entry of existing data sets, and taking the lead in cleaning incoming data for analysis (in close collaboration with the research coordinator and other key research team members). As requested by the project leadership and PIs, the Research Coordinator may contribute to developing and managing CTL-wide data systems and processes.

This position is a 12-month Career Faculty position in the Research Associate classification series. The position’s responsibilities are guided by the United Academics Collective Bargaining Agreement and the College of Education’s NTTF (non-tenure track faculty) promotion policy. The position is eligible for remote work but will be expected to coordinate research activities onsite in locations around Boise, Idaho.
