Senior Risk and Governance Manager

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). As an organisation we compensate victims of violent crimes. We employ around 300 people and are based in Glasgow city centre, with excellent transport links. We are a small, engaged, productive workforce with a real sense of corporate community. This position is based at Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, Alexander Bain House, 15 York Street, Glasgow G2 8JQ. We currently operate a hybrid working business model, where a typical employee works 2-3 days a week in the office and the remainder from home.

In early 2024 we will be moving to a nearby city centre office location.

The Role

The Senior Risk and Governance Manager plays a vital role within the organisation, managing a broad range of activities including risk management; corporate governance and assurance activity.

The role brings the post holder into contact with the Executive Management Board (EMB), fulfils key responsibilities in relation to the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) and helps manage relationships with our Non-executive Board Members (NEBMs).

You will report to the Director of Corporate Services and lead a small team of nine, with direct line management responsibility for four people.

Duties And Responsibilities

 

• Lead the organisation’s approach to risk, governance and compliance, providing expert advice as appropriate
• Oversee the system of corporate governance, ensuring that it remains robust and fit for purpose
• Lead compliance with Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and Subject Access Requests (SARs)
• Prepare reports and present Management Information (MI) to the EMB
• Oversee the delivery of business continuity activity and health and safety arrangements
• Act as a point of contact for National Audit Office (NAO) and Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA)

Essential Criteria

• Extensive knowledge and experience in one or more areas of risk management, corporate governance, assurance or a related discipline
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to deliver successful business outcomes
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to explain complex information in a clear and simple way to a variety of audiences
• The ability and confidence to offer appropriate constructive challenge across all organisational levels

Desirable criteria

 

• Professional qualification in the area of risk management, corporate governance, assurance, information governance or a similar discipline
• Demonstrable previous experience obtained within a similar role at a similar level
