About the job

Bionl is hiring a product engineer to help shape, build, and scale Bionl’s new and existing features. We’re a small multidisciplinary team (we have doctors who write code, engineers who design, designers who engineer, medical analysts who do data science, Ph.D. holders, researchers – and we all wear many hats). Thus, you’d have a wide variety of responsibilities.

This is a fully remote position, preferably in Jordan. The number of years of experience doesn’t matter; you could have 6 months or 10 years.

Here are some real examples of the work we’ve done lately:

• Building code execution engine that supports Python and R.
• Building reactive Python and R notebooks in the browser, connected in real-time to running kernels using reverse WebSocket proxy.
• Building workflow orchestration platform for data engineering, ML, and analytics.
• Integrate and fine-tune LLMs to serve existing features.

Here are some of the projects you might be working on:

• Scale Bionl notebooks to be portable, shareable, versioned, and reproducible.
• Build a reliable computing infrastructure (as we provide containers to our users).
• Build a browser-based terminal connected to the users’ allocated container.
• Build a credit system to calculate compute time.
• Build a collaborative suite to allow many users to work in the same workspace in real-time.
• Initiate Bionl’s engineering blog.

Who you are?

• We’re looking for someone with strong engineering, devops, design, writing, and management skills. You’re not necessarily excellent at all of them, but you don’t mind getting your hands dirty in any of them.
• You have ownership on your projects and can break it down. You can prioritize tasks and decide what to work on first, what to postpone, when to leave technical debt, and when to clean it up.
• You’re a T-shaped engineer

On the technology side, you’ll be a great fit if you have expertise in these areas:

• Node.js: most of the services we’ve built are running on Node.js (we use fastify and trpc).
• TypeScript: we don’t use any as much as we can to maintain a fully-typed codebase.
• React: you don’t have to be fluent to optimize its performance, but you wouldn’t need a React engineer to deliver your projects.
• Temporal: the De facto durable execution engine (we build multi-language workflows in minutes, without touching on infrastructure!)
• DevOps: if you want to optimize and build infrastructure and pipelines, that would be awesome (we run on GCP)
• NX: we have one mono-repo, so we use NX.
• Big bonus if you’re familiar with K8S.
