Finance Operation Manager

About the job

Core purpose of the Job: (Short description)

Managing, building and directing the Finance Operations team, responsible for the provision of accurate and high-quality financial information for the senior management team to support decision making, business planning and compliance throughout the organisation. Deliver excellent accounting services from Capital Investments, Financial Accounting, Inventory Management/Stock Accounting and Accounts Payable functions while implementing and maintaining strong financial controls.

  • Companywide function therefore role spans across all departments within the company
  • Regular Interaction with EXCO within the Company on a regular basis.

Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA’s)

Key Tasks: Indicates those KPA’s that are essential to the position itself. These are normally specific to the incumbent, the job, and the function. Excludes role and leadership / management.

· Lead, develop and motivate the Finance Operations team.

· Manage all aspects of the day to day activities of the Finance Operations team.

· Review and take responsibility for Key Financial Controls within all functional areas managed.

· Promote Finance Policies and work with the business to ensure solutions are always achieved within policy constraints.

· Oversee the Inventory Management/ Stock Accounting policies and processes to minimise financial risk to the organisation.

· Oversee the statutory interim and annual audits and ensure compliance to IFRS and MTN Group Financial Policies.

· Resolve all statutory audit items (Finance) and report monthly on ALL Statutory Audit Items

· Oversee the production of monthly reporting and analyse the key performance areas.

· Responsible for Capital Investments Project Management Reporting and Accounting, Financial Accounting, Stock Accounting and Accounts Payable functions.

· Seek to automate manual controls, processes and instil best practice.

· Ensure effective implementation of the subs-divisional strategy by means of providing direction, structure, business plans support

· Ensure minimal lead times for rendering support to the internal customers and ensure minimal process/operational breakdowns

· Perform ad-hoc duties assigned by management.

Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Complexity: Refers to the responsibilities for directing, guiding, motivating and influencing others:

· Accountable for the morale, performance, and development of the function’s human capital

· Approve work structure process before adoption by the team

· Ensure assigned team is led, motivated, and rewarded to achieve KPA’s

· Ensure effective management of diversity among personnel in the function

· Identify staff training and development needs and implement necessary actions

· Possess the authority, presence, and integrity to command respect from colleagues and from external contacts

· Provide guidance and leadership ensuring future focus and current efficiency

Role Complexity: Does not refer to the various “roles” that the incumbent has to assume in the conducting of the duties. Instead, this would be additional complexity that should not be inherent in this job, but the incumbent has responsibility for Example HR Managers having to manage an IT function.

· Relationship with the executives Calibre of Line managers and support and commitment towards the organization and finance division

· Constant liaising with different departments during analysis.

· Support from EXCO.

· Support from MTN Group.

· Inaccurate financial information that could impair high level decision making.

Responsibility towards:

§ Direct reports, Chief Finance Officer

§ Matrix reports, CEO, Members of EXCO, MTN FinTech Group

§ Key customers, Internal divisions and shareholders

§ Key suppliers, Providers of Financial services and Banks

§ Relations, etc. External users of the financial report.

Discretionary Space: The degree to which individuals are allowed to exercise independent thought and judgment.

Independent thought and Judgment: Relates to the decision-making constraints place upon a position or conversely, the degree of freedom in decision-making.

· Allow strategy and objectives to guide decision making processes

· Demonstrate sound judgment regarding assumptions of how influencing factors can / could change and what effect these scenarios would / could have on the viability of the organization from a long term perspective

· Ensure that numbers reported represent a true and fair view of the company’s state of business

· Manage finances of the company efficiently and minimize revenue leakage

· Spend money optimally ensuring costs are low yet product / services meet the standards set by MTN

· Recommend people for project.

· Improve processes and participate in developing new strategies.

Authorities: Financial and other decision making authorities, e.g. engaging contracts with suppliers.

Minimum Requirements: Minimum necessary, and not the ideal / preferred should be included.

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in B.Sc. Accounting, Commerce or a related Business discipline

· Professional Qualified Accountant. (CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA.)

· MBA / Masters advantage

Experience:

· Over 5 year’s financial accounting/management and business control experience in a busy competitive multinational environment.

· Experience in Fintech, banking or Financial Services is preferred

Training:

· Leadership skills

· Move to an MTN FinTech Operation for broader experience

· Thorough knowledge of financial accounting Systems issues which may include the implementation of new systems.

· Thorough knowledge and understanding of risk, control and auditing methodologies.

· Sound general business knowledge as well as knowledge of core business processes.

· Knowledge of the telecommunications industry would be an added advantage.

· Ability to generate practical solutions for complex conceptual and strategic problems

KPI’s/ Quality measurements

· Provide leadership, direction and support to the finance operations team

· Ensure the executive management, the board and other managers are kept informed by provision of accurate and timely financial information

· Quality and timely financial reporting with reasonable quarterly forecasts.

· Effective management of the Company Tax position.

· Effective management of creditors.

· Effective management of the Fixed Asset Register.

· Reduction of outstanding end of year audit issues.
